'PALLET SOFTWARE'
CAPE Systems has launched its latest pallet loading and packaging design software, CAPE PACK, which can be used to create pallet loading patterns by entering case and pallet loading restrictions. The program also handles case design, primary package optimisation, mixed product displays and promotional pallet loads.

The software presents users with the opportunity to view three dimensional, colour displays of a range of pallet layering solutions and pallet loads. It can also represent most package shapes including non-standard ones such as ellipses.

Artwork Images
CAPE PACK can illustrate trays, depict shrink wrapped bundles or pallet loads, open flaps on cases, show cut-away views and display how pallets can be loaded into trucks. In addition, artwork images, such as company logos, can be transferred to the surfaces of the packaging components to increase on-screen reality.

Output from the programme is exportable to other software systems, such as CAD and databases, as well as robotics and end of line packaging machinery applications. CAPE PACK graphics also act as an OLE Server and can, therefore, be inserted into any other Windows based OLE client program.

The programme has been specifically designed to follow standard Windows convention and to operate in a similar style to Microsoft Word. Data is, therefore, confined to a single input or output screen and there is on-line help.

PACKAGING WEEK UK

'SOFTWARE PACKAGE TO REDUCE COSTS'
A software package which combines the elements of pack design, palletisation and distribution logistics is due to be launched next month by CAPE Systems, of London. The company claims it can improve profitability by reducing distribution costs, eliminating unnecessary handling and optimising the use of outer packaging.

CAPE PACK uses new graphics technology to generate 3-D colour displays of a range of pallet layering solutions and can depict company logos on the surface of the packaging components for a realistic impression of pallet loads. It can illustrate trays, shrinkwrapped bundles and open flaps on cases and can also show dividers within the outer pack, cutaway views and how pallets can be loaded onto trucks.

Entering data relating to case and pallet size and any loading restrictions enables CAPE PACK to create a variety of palletisation solutions, as well as dealing with case design and pack arrangement, optimisation of primary packaging, creating mixed product displays and promotional pallet loads.

Once the packaging design and pallet loading analysis has been finalised, multiple views of the product case and pallet load can be printed out to show, for example, how the primary packs are arranged in the outer case, each layer of the loaded pallet, or the fully loaded pallet.

The solution in text and graphical form can then be exported to other software systems, including CAD, databases and robotics and end-of-line packaging machinery applications, the company claims.

For all its complex technology, CAPE PACK is said to be very user-friendly and is designed to follow standard Windows convention.

'SOFTWARE TAKES GUESSWORK OUT OF PALLET LOADING & DESIGN'
UK packaging software specialists CAPE Systems is to launch its latest pallet loading and packaging design software next month.

The CAPE PACK software allows users to see what product packaging, pallet load and truck load will look like with colourful, interactive graphics and true to life packaging components.

Users of CAPE PACK can create a variety of solutions for loading cases onto pallets by entering data that relates to the case size, the pallet size and any loading restrictions which might apply. The program also handles package arrangement and case design, primary package optimisation, mixed product displays and promotional pallet loads.

Designers and engineers can simply select the program groups they need to design and redesign their packaging, test outer case materials and sizes and create mixed product pallets for retail display purposes.

The new graphics technology behind CAPE PACK presents the user with the opportunity to view true to life representations of solutions and the power to share these results with other people. The program generates three dimensional, colour displays of a range of pallet layering solutions and true to life pallet loads.

It can also represent almost any package shape, even non standard shapes such as ellipses. Other capabilities include showing dividers within the outer pack and creating bundles of packs in their outer packaging. CAPE PACK can illustrate trays, depict shrink wrapped bundles or pallet loads, open flaps on cases, show cut away views and display how pallets can be loaded into trucks. In addition to this, artwork images such as labels, carton graphics and brand logos can be transferred to the surfaces of the packaging components within CAPE PACK to further increase visual reality. It is easy to quickly transfer scanned images or imported artwork files to the surfaces of your primary pack, bundle, or outer packaging. The program will then turn the surfaces of the flat blank image into a proper 3D object that can be used in CAPE PACK. When users finalise their packaging design and pallet loading analysis they can print out graphical, three dimensional configurations in both colour or black and white to show their customers or colleagues in the warehouse how the products will be packed in the outer cases and how the outer cases will be loaded and shipped on the pallets.

These printouts with multiple views of the product case and pallet load can be used as a marketing tool or as part of a specification to assist the assemblers in the warehouse. One view may show how the primary packages are arranged in the outer case, another may show each layer of the loaded pallet and a third might show the finalised fully loaded pallet.

Once a solution from the program has been chosen, both text and graphics information can be exported to other software systems such as CAD, databases and specifications, as well as robotics and end of line packaging machinery applications. The graphics also act as an OLE Server and can therefore be inserted into any other Windows based OLE Client program.

Even though the CAPE PACK program uses very advanced technology it is extremely easy to use. The new program has been specifically designed to follow standard Windows convention and to operate in a similar style to Microsoft Word. Data is therefore confined to a single input or output screen and there is on line help.
